In the Real World projects are developed and completed using Planning Strategies and Tools that today are fundamental to successful project completion.
In the business, this is called Project Management. The principles and practices employed in this management protocol are employed everywhere multiple individuals, specialty trades, vendors and professionals are mustered to accomplish a common end.
As real estate investors, this is the case with every project we undertake. To one extent or another we work with multiple resources, including independent contractors and tradesmen. Done well we prosper, we make money.
But the opposite is also true– To assume we can simply hire a contractor and he or she will “take care of it” as promised is for many a prescription for failure and loss.
It is YOUR Project!
No one cares about the profitability of your project more than you. Certainly not those you hire. They have their own agendas, their own concerns, which may or may not support your goals.
Your challenge is to maintain oversight of your project, to understand how things “ought to go”. In this way you will maximize the energies and talents of those you bring to your job. You are in control.
This is what we call “effective project management”. It is not just about control – it’s about management.
